Hope Street Group understands that meaningful teacher engagement is essential for successful education policy and practice reform. Our Teacher Fellows Program provides states and districts with the tools, data and infrastructure to foster teacher networks, formulate innovative ideas and directly solve education challenges. The program is currently operating in Arizona, Hawaii, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and Utah.

THE NEED FOR TEACHER FELLOWS: WHY THE PROGRAM WAS CREATED

It’s clear that well-intended policies, that could have a powerful impact for teachers and students, will not succeed without proper input and support from teachers. Hope StreetGroup’sTeacher Fellows Program provides teachers with organized teacher leadership development and an opportunity to influence education policy in states.

Our State Teacher Fellows and their Professional LearningNetworks(PLNs), include more than 50,000 teachers across the country. They are making an impact in their states and districts by:

  • Increasing resources to implement the core components of the statewide teacher evaluation system in Kentucky.
  • Informing the implementation and sustainability of the Next Generation Science Standards in Hawaii.
  • Informing the development of a framework for formalizing teacher leadership roles in Tennessee.
  • Serving as advisors to state legislators and district superintendents in Hawaii,Kentucky, and Tennessee.
  • Influencing SEA decisions to improve communication to educators, to clarify guidelines for testing, and to create a Proof of Concept
  • Informing the implementation and sustainability of the Next Generation Science Standards in Hawaii.

OUR FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS

RESEARCH

State Teacher Fellows use surveys and focus groups to gauge their peers’ changing perspectives and possible solutions to the challenges educators encounter. They then share the data at STF-led convenings with their peers.
