18 Aug An Evaluation of the Hawaii State Teacher Fellows Program, Year One
Tuesday, August 18th, 2015
The Hawaii State Teacher Fellows Program launched in 2014 with outstanding educators from across the state’s islands.
State Teacher Fellows (STFs) have been featured in media across the state; provided feedback from thousands of their peers to the state’s Department of Education on critical education policies, including the implementation of Hawaii’s Common Core Standards; hosted local and state policymakers in their classrooms; and have shared their solutions and expertise at education convenings across the state and country.
This in-depth, independent evaluation examines the impact of Hope Street Group’s first year of the Hawaii State Teacher Fellows Program.
Findings include:
- STFs have been successful in establishing themselves as key leaders for teachers’ voices and advocates for their profession.
- STFs highly valued the in-person and virtual trainings offered by Hope Street Group as the most important and useful resource to their work.
- STFs see themselves as teacher leaders with knowledge of state policy and look forward to expanding their sphere of influence on state policy next year.
