Is registration required?
No. Anyone can browse or use the site. Users only have to register if they would like to make comments or post new site content.

Who can contribute to Hope Street Group?
Any registered site user. If you want to add content, you must first create a user profile so that you are known to the community. Then, when exploring the site, you can "Create Content" on your Dashboard, on the "Share" button on the homepage, or look for links to "Add Content" on Policy Area Homepages. In addition, you can "Edit" content on public pages - just look for the Edit subnav on the top of the page. REMEMBER: hit "Submit" for your content to be submitted to our site administrator for approval. As your participation increases, the site administrator can enable you to post content without approval.

How are "showcase" publications, events, groups, and challenges selected?
All content published on hopestreetgroup.org can be considered for the showcase on the homepage. Content must include a photograph and content that supports the Hope Street Group mission. As site administrators approve content for publication, they will randomly select content to be showcased on the homepage.

Where does the information on hopestreetgroup.org come from?
The information we gathered is culled from publicly available data on hubs and networks that exist on the Internet, as well as primary keyword research using search engines. Data for organizations and events have been gathered by staff, interns, volunteers, and Hope Street Group members from around the world, or submitted to the site directly from the organizations themselves.

Personal Profile
How do I create a personal profile?
Click "Create a Profile" on the left hand sidebar and fill out the required information. You can now freely edit or add information throughout the site.

How do I edit my personal profile?
Once you are logged in, you can click "Profile" on your Dashboard. Your main profile will appear, giving you the option to edit your personal information. After editing, click "submit" and you're done!

How do I insert links in my profile?
While you are editing your profile (or any editing page), highlight the text where you would like the link to appear. Choose the "Insert/edit link" icon. Type in the url of the desired link and click "Insert". To link to an external email address, type "mail: name@email.com" into the url field. The link will appear as blue, underlined text in the edit box.

How do I report an error if I encounter one while editing?
1st Option: Choose the Contact button on the bottom of the homepage and report your problem to the Hope Street Group site administrator. An administrator will respond to your problem within 1 business day.

What if I am unable to upload a photo onto my profile page?
First, make sure you are attempting to upload a .gif, or .jpg file. If you are still unable to upload a photo, you may have exceeded the max amount of photo storage. Please delete an existing photo on your profile before trying again. If you still cannot add a photo, this denotes a bug, and should be reported by clicking on the Contact button on the bottom of the homepage and reporting your problem to the Hope Street Group site administrator.

How do I change my password?
Once you are logged in, you can click on your profile on your Dashboard. Once there, you can select "Edit" on the sub-nav. Your profile will appear, giving you the option to create and confirm a new password.

What if I forgot my password or username?
On the homepage, you will see a link that says "Sorry, unrecognized username or password. Have you forgotten your password? Clicking on this link will open a new page asking for your email. An email will be sent immediately with your username and a new password.

How do I delete my account?
In order to delete an account, you need to contact one of the Hope Street Group administrators, which you can do by emailing info [at] hopestreetgroup.org. One of our administrators will be in touch with you shortly and will be able to de-activate an account within a few minutes.

Do I need to log in?
No. Without logging in you can still browse the entire site, but you cannot add or edit data. Once you log in, you are an active participant in the Hope Street Group network. You can add content, rate content, contact other users, and participate in discussion forums.

You will want to add certain pages to your Favorites. Go to the page you want to add and rate the content at the top of the page. To review your Favorites, go to your Profile Page and see a listing of your favorites in order of rating and recency.

What are Policy Areas?
Policy Areas are the specific topics that Hope Street Group focuses on when making proposals to increase economic opportunity and social mobility in America. All content entered on hopestreetgroup.org (events, challenges, blogs, links, publications, groups) can be associated with several policy areas. This association allows a user to more easily find events, challenges, groups, and site content associated with their Policy Area. In addition, this content will automatically populate related policy area and group homepages.

Where can I find the Policy Areas?
The current list of Policy Areas is on the left nav on the homepage. When a user "Creates Content," the user can associate the posting with one or more policy areas by selecting them from the "Issues" pull-down menu.
