Hope Street Group is a new generation of leaders dedicated to building an Opportunity Economy. We build diverse coalitions from our network of business, civil society and political leaders to drive innovative policies that make economic opportunity possible for all Americans.

Our vision

Is America still a place where anyone can succeed just by working hard? Although Americans are optimistic about their prospects for the future, there are indications that we are no longer a nation in which citizens can achieve the American Dream based on their merits alone. Hope Street Group believes in America's promise as a nation, where economic opportunity and prosperity are mutually reinforcing. By building diverse coalitions to support bold, bi-partisan solutions, we can secure broad access to quality education, health care, and markets for jobs, homes and capital - ensuring America remains a prosperous nation.

What we do

Hope Street Group is a collaborative model for the Participation Age. We believe every individual can have an impact on broadening opportunity in America and are tackling our nation's most pressing domestic issues by:

• Building diverse coalitions around shared goals to increase economic opportunity;
• Developing innovative economic policies and clear actions plans for implementation;
• Using our business, civic, and political networks to implement those plans.

How we do what we do

• Bi-Partisan Working Groups [1] - strategy sessions where leaders from the worlds of business, politics and civil society collaborate and create action plans to reform education, savings, business, and healthcare policy.
• Local Chapters [2] - members work with local political, business and civic leaders on opportunity-expanding projects for their cities. Our active groups include LA and Denver, with efforts in NYC, DC, San Francisco, and Austin planned for 2008-09.
• A Virtual Movement - members and supporters share analysis, ideas, and expertise and use online tools to participate in every aspect of our work.
• The Opportunity Economics Colloquium [3] - an annual summit where America's most distinguished leaders create uncommon coalitions to build an Opportunity Economy.
• The Economic Opportunity Index - An interactive, online tool to provide quantitative measures of Americans' ability to capitalize on hard work to achieve economic prosperity.
• The Idea Primary [4] - our volunteer-led policy teams work with Presidential campaigns from both parties to integrate Opportunity Economics policies into their platforms and agendas.
