After rising 18 points between 1940 and 1960 to 62% of American households, US homeownership has remained relatively flat in the past 45 years, rising by 7 points to 69% of American households. Hope Street Group believes that buying a home is a stepping stone to the middle class and supports programs that stabilize neighborhoods, help families and individuals build wealth, and keep the U.S. economy strong.
